Hopkins Food Truck Festival on July 23

One of the Twin Cities’ most beloved and delicious free events – The Uptown Food Truck Festival – will take over Mainstreet downtown Hopkins on July 23. More than 45 food trucks from all around will sell their special street fare from across the globe.

Kati Orso of Curbside Crepes in Eveleth reports her truck gets extremely busy during events. She serves both sweet and savory crepes along with various kinds of desserts.

The Uptown Food Truck Festival

Food trucks abound at this event held annually in Minneapolis. Over 60 local and international vendors sell various delicious street food and beverages – not to mention local craft beers and music that add an extra delightful element!

At this festival, admission is free – though early arrival is highly advised for securing a good spot. As one of the country’s premier food truck festivals, this one-day festival should not be missed by gourmet food enthusiasts!

Visit Columbus to experience different food trucks by attending The Next Big Thing in Uptown: Food Truck Thursdays. Parking costs $2 at Digital Futures Complex, and visitors can walk or ride their bikes directly to the festival site. Please check ahead on their website as the menu options vary weekly to be prepared with adequate amounts.

At this event, you’ll also find many local artists and artisans. While vendor lineup varies depending on location, expect items like handmade gifts, home decor items, unique clothing pieces, and much more! Although the event is free, please bring cash; some vendors may require payment to set up shop.

Sauerkraut Days

Sauerkraut evokes strong opinions among diners – you either love it or detest it! Wishek’s German-Russian founders took great pleasure in celebrating its importance; each Wednesday at Wishek Fest, residents can enjoy a free sauerkraut meal with sausage and potatoes!

The festival began during the Great Depression to bring people into town. It has grown into a three-day event featuring carnival rides, live entertainment, free wieners and sauerkraut samples, and a grand parade. Other events include the 5K Kraut Run, antique car show, and championship arm wrestling contests.

According to the event website, food for this event is made in a community kitchen using an old recipe dating back to the 1940s. Sauerkraut is soaked in salt for weeks before rolling in flour and cooking in boiling water – producing an irresistibly delicious crunchy sweet and sour treat!

Sauerkraut Days is well known for its entertaining and quirky contests, such as the “Biggest Cabbage Weigh-Off,” and crowning an annual cabbage king and queen. Additionally, highlights of this festival include a community parade, a 5K kraut race, and a free ice cream social for kids, all in honor of this humble vegetable! Sauerkraut not only tastes good; its benefits extend far beyond taste – studies have proven its ability to boost immune function, decrease inflammation levels, and aid nutrient absorption; furthermore, it provides probiotics, healthy bacteria found throughout your digestive tract that improve overall well-being!

Families in Central Park

Central Park is an urban oasis with plenty of family activities and attractions. Perfect for getting outdoors and discovering nature, wildlife, and history and visiting some famous sites and attractions!

North Woods provides an ideal forest escape in NYC, where children can learn about ecosystems while strengthening their connection to nature. Hiking, picnicking, or simply strolling the rustic trails and crossing wooden bridges are popular activities here; Bow Bridge provides breathtaking views of the Reservoir with its rowboats and paddleboats, while Conservatory Pond hosts model boat racing in summer and ice skating during winter – something both young and old alike love doing!

Families can get their hands dirty at the Central Park Zoo, watching sea lions feed and meeting farmyard animals at Tisch Children’s Zoo. In addition, the New York landmark Delacorte Musical Clock plays a tune every 30 minutes; children love throwing pennies into its fountain outside.

Central Park Carousel, with its 57 exquisite horses, is another must-see attraction, while Museum Mile, running along the eastern edge of the park, houses many of NYC’s premier art museums – The Met in particular being popular with families.

The Grande Day Parade

If you love parades, then the Grande Day Parade should not be missed. Boasting over 100 units ranging from floats, bands, and the reigning King Boreas himself, a fireworks show, and a carnival atmosphere – it truly brings communities and businesses together through one event! The Grande Day Parade offers something for everyone in its lineup and supports local businesses simultaneously!

Parking will be plentiful around the event, and streets near the parade route will be closed off from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm – so arrive early if you want a spot on the road or one of the parks. Bring a chair or blanket if sitting on the street is your preference!

The parade is free to watch, though food and beverage vendors in the park sell food and beverages for two hours. It is held annually on the second Thursday in June.

Attractions abound during the Grande Day Parade on Sixth Ave, and it is wise to arrive early to see all of it. Bleeker Street becomes incredibly congested between 14th Streets. Chairs or blankets may be brought along for seating during the parade but must be removed once the show has concluded. All proceeds benefit City Harvest, River Bend Foodbank, and other Quad City organizations working to end hunger in our region.
