The organization was founded by Karyn Gerred, a painter and professional scenic artist. She earned her BFA in fine arts in Philadelphia in 1989 and has since painted for theatre, television, and feature films. In 2008, Gerred became concerned about the environmental impact of the entertainment industry and decided to create SETS. She continues to operate the organization today.

The W Philadelphia offers luxury accommodations and events in the city’s Center City area. Both properties share 45,000 square feet of event space and are steps away from many of the city’s major attractions.
SET’s new location in Philadelphia includes two areas. The Brewerytown location is approximately 900 square feet, with indoor and outdoor seating. It is adjacent to the Four Seasons, the Comcast Building, and the Rittenhouse neighbourhood. Both are expected to open in November 2022.
