Jio Phone Review – The Newest Android Smartphone From Reliance Jio
Jio Phone is a new Android smartphone aimed at bringing millions of people online who aren’t comfortable with modern technology. It’s a budget Android device bundled with monthly data plans from Jio.
The phone is powered by a dual-core processor manufactured by Qualcomm or Spreadtrum and comes with 512MB of RAM. It also has 4GB of internal storage for apps and software updates.
Design
The Jio Phone Next is a budget Android smartphone with a small display. It comes with a 2.4-inch screen and a 240 x 320 pixels resolution.
While it looks like a typical smartphone, it offers several unique features. These include India-centric optimizations like read-aloud for any text on the screen and Google Lens integration.
This phone also runs on a customized Pragati OS built by Google and Jio to deliver a simplified and delightful experience for users in India. It has been designed with voice-first features that enable users to consume content and navigate the phone in their native language, a great camera experience, and more.
The Jio Phone Next will be available in India on September 10, and it is aimed at those who can’t afford smartphones and still have to use 2G feature phones. It was first announced in July, and pre-bookings have started. It’s likely to be the cheapest Android phone in India.
Performance
If you’re looking for a low-cost 4G smartphone, the Jio Phone Next is a good option. It offers a tailor-made Android experience for Indian users.
The Jio Phone Next has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 SoC and 2GB of RAM. It also sports a 13-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
It runs on the Pragati OS, an Android OS engineered exclusively for India. It comes with a suite of built-in apps, including Google’s Lens.
However, the UI and performance aren’t very smooth. It’s the first smartphone I’ve tested to score a two-digit Geekbench 5 CPU score.
It’s one of the most affordable smartphones in India, with an upfront cost of Rs 6,499 or through an 18- to 24-month equated monthly installment (EMI) plan. It’s a good choice for Indian beginners who don’t want to spend much money on their first device.
Battery life
Whether you’re a power user or just looking for a primary device to keep in your pocket, Jio Phone Review offers solid performance. Its 3,000mAh non-removable battery should give you a full day of regular usage.
Its low-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 215 processor and KaiOS aren’t fast, but they don’t feel slow. It also has an excellent 8-megapixel front camera and a decent 13-megapixel rear camera.
This entry-level smartphone offers you plenty of features for the price, including a microSD card slot, Bluetooth connectivity, and aptX support. In addition to these, it has a 3.5mm audio jack for connecting headphones and speakers.
Apps
Jio Phone Review is the newest entrant into the Indian mobile market, launched by Reliance Jio. This device targets the 300-odd million people in India who still use feature phones connected to 2G networks.
The Jio Phone is a fully-featured smartphone co-developed by Google and Jio. Its unique OS with embedded voice-first capabilities allows users to interact and consume content in their native language.
It has an excellent camera includes features like India-centric Snapchat Lenses, a read-aloud and language translation capability for on-screen text, and more.
A Jio apps store also allows users to download and install games, music, videos, and apps on their Jio Phones. The app store is similar to most big app markets like Google Play but offers a curated list of high-quality recommendations.
It also has a Jio TV app, providing access to 550+ channels and seven catch-up days. The app is a good choice for people who love watching movies and TV shows on their devices.
